Hi Guys,
I will be acquiring my first Corvette, a 1972 Coupe very soon. Have always liked the way these Vettes look with side pipes, and I am entertaining putting them on the 72. Would very much appreciate any comments from those of you that have or have had these on your Vette, either the good, the bad, or the ugly.
Thanks,
Dave

I had the Hooker's on my 78'. Loved them. If you get the Hookers, be sure and buy some heat shields so you don't get "branded" getting out of the car. They get HOT.

I have had both Hookers and factory and highly recommended both styles. You can tune the loudness to your liking by mufflers / baffles. This is with STS baffles.
If you go with side pipes, make sure you have good heat shields.
With protection from burns my vote is YES!
Side pipes add a bit of complexity when jacking the car up as you have to work around them.
However once standard exhaust is gone, work on things like the tranny etc is much easier! No exhaust in the way!
I've had Hooker chrome sidepipes on my '72 since 1977. Love 'em.
Switched from the Hooker muffler inserts to the STS baffles when the new motor went in.
For performance: Stahl/ACP. For shineness: Hooker, Hedman, OBX. Quasi stock look: 69 covers with 67 pipes. Vintage look: Kustom headers. The Stahls are the best for performance but MAY not fit power steering and air conditioning car. Other than stock 69 covers should have a heat shield. Without the shielding, you'll burn your legs once. It is a painful learning curve.
Here is my 72. I went with 69 factory side pipes and covers. Love the look.
Me too and although I like the raw pipe look the factory covers are the best side pipe look IMO.
My '71 had the factory style pipes and covers on it when I bought it. I loved the look but both the pipes and covers were shot. I bought my car from the original owner and he installed them shortly after he bought the car so they were old. I wanted to put side pipes back on but I couldn't reuse the original covers (they pretty much fell apart taking the off) and after pricing original covers ( I didn't want the fiberglass ropo's if I was going to have side pipes) which were astronomical I switched back to under car exhaust. I'll to go back..........I think it's # 23 on the list.
