How are those tires grip-wise? I have Sportsman S/Ts on my car but I was looking at the S/Rs. The guys at Discount Tire wouldn't order them for me because they claimed the load rating was too low.

Good question the car has only been driven around the block a few times. The tires were on it when i purchased it. I am getting it ready for paint as it is in primer.

I was torn between side pipes and straight pipes with cut outs. My wife insisted on side pipes, so that made that easy. I run my car pretty low and drive it all over the place but have not had any problems with them scraping the ground. Depending on what inserts you use and what trans. you have they can be kind of annoying on the highway. I have a six speed and when I get on the highway the RPMs drop and it is not very loud. I have a friend with a 69 with inserts that are a bit louder than mine and he has a 4 speed. He wears ear plugs when we take the cars out of town on the interstate very far.
I just drove mine to south dakota and back (1K miles) last week and it was not bad at all.

Hookers with STS baffles and Cobra Stiff heat shields. Not bad at all noise wise even with a 496 BBC. Though, the 6 speed does help on the highway.

Sidepipes are awesome, no doubt. But they do change the character of the car, so be aware of that. I put Doug's black on my 81 and love them … but they are loud! I got the 'middle of the road loudness' inserts. It's funny because when me and my wife are in the car we can still talk because the engine/pipe noise is in a lower range haha. As far as burning, they never get hot enough to burn. Hot, yes but not hot enough to burn.

I hadn't really considered sidepipes due to my twin aversions to chrome and burnination. Those look perfect! And they are cheaper out the door than what an under-the-car header system would likely cost, at least where I live.

I have the same pipes and inserts, and I wish I had bought the quietest inserts. The sound is great and sometimes I love the loud, sometimes not.

I have Hooker's with Doug's inserts on my '77.
I chose not to use external heat shields.
Instead, I wrapped the inserts with DEI titanium header wrap before installing them into the side tubes.
The tubes will get warm to the touch, but I can put my hand on them after a 30 minute drive at highway speed.

Have had side pipes for 16 years. Can`t beat the exhaust note. But, I am pretty tired of the exhaust smell and extra cabin heat.
