replacing rear shock absorbers and identified a few things worth asking about..
a) at some point, someone has put a composite spring in my 68.. the bolts that hold the spring in situ are nowhere near even From left to right sides (prob an inch out), shorter on drivers side. Is this a concern, or am I being paranoid?
b) it's got adjustable struts fitted.. that are totally loose and floppy when suspension is unloaded (wheels off), but seem under load when it's on the ground.. cause for concern?
A) Post a couple pictures of the bolts.....hold the camera about a foot away from them so members will be able to see the problem.
B) The struts might need new bushings installed (they should be tight at all times and the lock nuts should also be tight)
Jjust slightly concerned that the unequal loading might be contributing to the left side lean that my (and so many other early c3s) suffers.. but would appreciate thoughts! Thanks in advance
the length is what adjust the body height. maybe blown out bushings so they are adjusted differently so to not look weird. so the wheel arch height measure the same on both sides?
The wheel arch is just over half an inch lower on the left- the side that is nearly unwound. Do you think jacking it up and adjusting the nut would sort that?

yeah you should replace the bushings. they probably causing a variance in the height as well. and check or replace the bolts as well, it could be theyre ground down on one side.

The effective length of the bolt determines the ride height. Shorter bolt means higher ride height. If you tighten the left side bolt, that left side will rise. I would not jack it up to do that. Free to try and not too difficult.
Looks like the right bolt is longer, or is it just the camera angle? Either way, those bolts are longer than stock and too long to be safe. Think about what will happen if you have a flat tyre.
