Default 68 frame off windows ?

I am in the process of a frame off restoration on my 68. I need to remove the side windows to be able to remove the exterior trim strips and replace the window seals. It looks to be a real pain to work on the window mechanism. Any advice or good how to would be appreciated.

Do you have the 68 assembly instruction manual (AIM)? Door glasses can be piddly business. The AIM shows the installation and has a page of instructions for resetting the glass. Do you have a safe space to store the glasses while they are out of the car?

I do have the manual and it hadn't dawned on me to look there. Ya I have a safe place to store as they are the original one at that with the Astro logo.

Removing the door glass on a 68/ early 69 was a part of the restore I was not looking forward to. The windows were also power and in need of new rollers on the tracks. The early design was changed for the later years. Anyway after replacing the items needing attention it was time to install them back in the door. I remember spending an entire Sunday (8hrs) and achieving nothing. Hopefully the metal attached to your tracks are not rusted out beyond repair. This design was changed for future years. After thinking about things I returned the next day and it took me 25 min. to do the entire job. I amazed myself.

Thanks for the pics. I have been dreding do the window mechanism. So far no rust damage. I wanted to fix the windows pror to removing the doors and then pulling the body off the frame. Trying to get all of the dirty work done before cold weather hits.

Hi Craig, you are right in doing the windows on the car, that is the preferred way. Glad to hear you have no rust issues. I had to gut the doors for painting the exterior. Now that I know what I am up against the driver door should go in the same way. Good luck with your project and hope to see some pictures.
