Who still has one. One that works even. Anyone change to LED. Filament bulb has no life. How about just removing the darned thing. Do not care about correctness at this point.
I removed my factory bulb all together and installed an inline switch so i could have it off during car shows etc where i don't want it on. I used 2 LED bars about 6 inches long and 1 inch wide which were originally used for daytime running lights. Plenty of light at night. I'll try to get a picture later this week.
I removed it completely from my 81. It broke loose from the hood so I just eliminated it.
Mine is going bye-bye soon. Empty socket for 15 years. Lights burn out too fast due to vibration/heat/whatever. Will fill in hood holes and trace wires down and eliminate.
I have LEDs in both cars. I'll put in a switch or Molex connector in one of these days, but I just pull the bulb when the hood is open for more than a few hours.
I like it, its functional and a nifty retro feature.
