i have a 1973 corvette, and the car has both a all black shifter plate and a shifter plate that has chrome around the shifter and selecter lens.can you please tell me which one fits my car the car is an automatic 350 with air.
Well, it might be because of poor pictures, but a couple of vendors I looked up showed not much difference although they leaned toward anything with A/C looking more chromed than the non-A/C. (It did not seem to matter whether automatic or not) But again, the pics don't seem that good. When I redid my console shifter plate I found that the outside edge had a nice chrome finish by using a very fine piece of steel wool or 400 grit sand paper to expose it. Here is a picture of my plate after my work on it and also some vendor pictures.............I like chrome, so..........
thanks for the pictures,my all black with chrome outer edge is just like the one in your pictures, but my chrome shifter plate is defiently different with the chrome thats on it.i do know that it is not modified with chrome where it doe's not belong, beacuse i have seen pictures of other 1973 corvette with this shifter plate, and on e-by motors there are other shifter plates with chrome for sale.i just want to know which one is correct for my 73.
All 68-76 were black with just chrome highlights. The shift plates were chrome plated, and then painted black. Once painted, the only place chrome shows through, is on the edges. The consoles posted by Kansas123, are exactly how ALL 68-76 shift plates were painted.
People have stripped the black paint off of consoles, so that they are completely chrome, but the factory never installed a chrome shifter plate in any 68-76 Corvette.
