Default 15" vs 18" pics

I have trusted to empty promisses from a experienced shop here in Germany
and my car was flared and 18" LT III where ordered from the US.
After ridiculous 2 years it was finished with new paint (Monterey Red from C6)

And now they (and my self) can´t get the 18" rims street legal in Germany.
So I had to got down to the old TTs...and maybe I´ll throw the better performing 18"s into the shredder.

Wow both look great. Why can't you use 18" rubber?

It´s our law. There are only sizes from back then allowed on vintage cars. And 18"s came out in the `90s.
16" is the maximum they would allow, but I cant get propper tires in that size.
Mainreson for the 18" was for me the performance on wet roads. When you are on a week trip you cant avoid
getting into rain. And I have the worst experiences with Goodrich and Micky Thompson. Although they perform acceptable when dry.

I don't want to turn this into a political / country thread, but do you have any idea why the government feels the need to regulate what size tires should be on your car? Our freedoms in the U.S. are what makes our country great, but many in this country are going down the path to implement more government control, and so it would be interesting to know why Germany feels like an 18" rim on your car is somehow banned. Governments are always good with coming up with some justification for this, but I cannot figure out what this one is about.

By the way,..... I actually like the looks of the 15" wheel on your car better, despite the performance loss. Beautiful car and beautiful pictures of your country.

Well, if you want an "official" vintage car, you have to keep it vintage and pay less tax.
You can **** onto that status and put modern stuff (incl. 18" etc.) onto your car, but then
you pay for emissions, for each cui and because there is no catalytic converter you pay additional more.
Resulting in ~ $3000 Tax per year. So this is only an option for the rich guys. You can solve every problem
on the world with money. It´s even legal in this case.

Wow that is nuts..the 15s still look great. Shame about those laws, most times 18s looks stupid on these cars, you got the stance just right. Color sure looks sharp along with the wheel choice.
If only our society was as advanced and civil as yours..

Yep- Looks to me- like a way for the government to get more money- Imagine that?!!!

Car looks great!!!

Is there a Tire size police? If you drive around on the 18"s will you get stopped and fined? I know guys in California that every two years will swap the engine out to pass their BAR ( Bureau of Automotive Repair )

I'm surprised you are allowed to run aftermarket sidepipes....

Of course you can get fined. And if a cop thinks your car is not safe, because the wheels were not approved, they can engross the whole car. Or if you have an accident, the insurance can refuse to pay because your car was not street legal.
You can´t get sidepipes onto any car, despite the C2/C3 and Cobra, because these cars had sidepipes back then.

Some people get problems just because of a wrong carburator...
This ist not a free custom car country.

If 16's are allowable and you don't have a problem with a sticky tire with a Treadwear rating of 100, I have a set of Toys Proxes RA1's on my car. 255/50 ZR16's fill my stock 69 wheel wells pretty nicely.

Beautiful job on the car and I love the color. I believe that is a one year only color. My C6 is velocity yellow, had that been available not sure if I wouldn't have picked it.

Thank you all.
It tool my some weeks to choose the color.
Some of you may remember the car, it was maroon previously.
That looked similar to the original burgundy.

When I bought the ´69 I primary I wanted a black C3.
Things came different, but now I thought again about black.
But I have seen a lot of black C3s on many meetings and now like
more colors where the different angles of the surfaces give different shades of the color.

Additional I was familiar with the maroon, this was just my car with a seldom color on every car meeting.
But I wanted it a bit more into a red shade. This would also keep the "soul" of the car, because of the original burgundy color.

The painter made me at least 10 sample paintings until I found that Monterey Red was the best one.
First I wanted Garned Red from a 2015 Camaro. But later it was too bright red for me. Had also some BMW samples.
The bad thing about this color is that it is a 3 layer paint. Because it´s a real challange to repeat the results it was painted at once
with the doors and hood installed. Otherwise they would have painted it disassembled.
In case I´ll need a repair there will always be a risk that they won´t be able to reproduce the exact color shade.
You have to know that the last layer includes red tint and it depends how thick you spray that.

So far I really like the color, in the shaddow it looks like my old maroon, but in the sun it´s a really bright red with metallic effect coming out.
And all shades in between.
