Default radio replace question..

I have the passenger seat and carpet out as I had to replace the heater core and clean the chemicals out of the carpet. someone had a real cheap non-cd radio in it. Now is a good chance to replace as easier to get at. I got a alpine from a guy as it is compact. but it has a sirusxm with it's cord plugged in back. I don't think the sirus is of much use to me and can't seem to find out if I can just unplug it from the radio? I could suppose leave it plugged in but not activate it?

what is the Sirius unit plugged into, the antenna connection on the radio? If so remove it.

actually it is plugged into the back of the unit. a round pin type plug. I think it is built right into unit but has a sirius black small box that is plugged into unit. it is a Alpine CDE-124SXM - I only listen to Christian station and oldies so I see no need for Sirius. I can also get a kenwood from him for $45 but he said alpine is easier to use programming and maybe bit better? The Alpine bit smaller and has mini amp built in so thought just fit better. neither will be easy.

why wouldnt you buy a radio that is intended to be a direct replacement without having to cut up the dash to install it?

Maybe not in the budget but you can buy a "modern" radio that looks just like the original and will fit the dash opening.

This is just one example. Can get pricey
