Many factors that will determine shrinkage in polyester, tempature, amount of hardener, how thick it is applied. Easy example kick off a quart of gelcoat at 1%(10cc per quart) and one at 2%(20cc per quart) weigh them after. The shrinkage will vary. If you spray some gelcoat 20 Mills thick, and you measure that thickness after it is fully cured, it will be different.

when I use polyester primer, this is what I use, they also make a high build. Notice they give both wet and dry coverage?
OK. lots of input, thanks, las
t little question, when I bought some extra hardner, the fellow asked 'blue or red' I said 'WHAT" is there a difference? he said yep, but did not know much more,
so is he full of CRAP. I have never noticed a difference, so what say u all???
Other than the color ,I do not think there is a difference. Blue is what I use due to red hardener can bleed though..or at least a long time ago it could on lacquer jobs. Blue hardener will not bleed though. But not seeing what he is selling you. look at the tube and read the ingredients and see if they differ form one color to another.
