I presume the existing negative cable mounts to the threaded side? If so, that means the non-threaded side mounts to the battery with the bolt that came with the disconnect?? The problem is that the bolt that came with is not long enough (tried two different batteries) and BTW, it came threaded into the threaded side of the disconnect. Am I doing something completely wrong, or do I just need to pickup a longer bolt? I am taking the car to an NCRS "mini" judging show tomorrow and would prefer that I not look like a total moron. LOL.
I must be losing my mind. I am mechanically inclined (as least I thought I was) and I can't figure out how this damn battery disconnect mounts. UGH.

on mine the threaded half connects to battery cable. The bolt and non threaded half should go to the battery.

Don't worry Boss, I never understood these things either. Here's what I use. ...
Don't feel bad, I gave up after 15 minutes of putzing with that thing too. Not much clearance for it either with a side mount battery. I guess I'll try again....

I had the same problem with the side terminal switches. Had to use a longer bolt with a washer to take up some space, as the longer bolt would bottom out on the battery terminal and the switch was still loose.
I used one like that for several years and I had to grind a longer bolt down to make it work on the batt side.
After scratching the crap out of my had for the umpteenth time trying to reach behind the battery I finally switched to a knife blade style one and haven't looked back since

Thanks for that thread. After reading all that, I think I am going with the Flaming River FR-1002. Should be able to mount that somewhere in the battery compartment.
I use a longer bolt that is completely threaded. I screw a nut all the way on to the bolt head. I tighten the bolt until it bottoms out in the battery, then tighten the nut against the disconnect. Definetly not the best set up but I had several disconnects already and it does work.
I find it also helps to completely remove the luggage compartment frame / doors when working extensively on the battery - it doesn’t take very much time to remove, but it can be very fragile (ask me how I know). Fortunately the frame is pretty cheap to replace.

You are correct that it helps quite a bit and only takes a few minutes to do. I also agree the frame can be much more fragile than you anticipate.

Push the lock button, battery disconnected. Push the unlock, back in business. Install a pushbutton momentary switch as a backup. It re-connects the battery, same as the fob. No one see's you securing your car, no one knows it is there at all. Think car shows, unattended parking lots, etc. The best part, hide the solenoid under the car. Undetectable. And, it monitors your battery charge and will self disconnect at 11.99 V. Allowing you to be able to start your carand drive home. Its ingenious!
