I sold an L82 out of a 78 a couple of years ago. Long block, never rebuilt with 60,000 miles on it. Ran fine. No carb, distributor or accessories included. $450.
I don't think used pistons are worth anything. Crank is worth a few bucks but not much if anything for used con rods.

Assuming the engine is an original L-82, but worn and needs a rebore - Crank, block, tin, intake, bolts, balancer and smalls are worth something. I know I would buy them. Heads, pistons and rods are not worth much of anything.
Why does it have to be an L82? You can buy reman short blocks all over for 6-800 bucks. I mean, I like standard bores and journals. In can see wanting a forged piston-ring engine, but a 40 year old L82 still needs gone through which will make those pistons 30 cents a pound scrap. That engine was special back then cuz there was almost no aftermarket except intakes and cams back then. Now it is an old block and crank.
Now if i was an expert tuner i would just use any old small block, but I'm not.
So i need a junkyard engine with forged pistons that will tolerate small mistakes.
Maybe i will be good at it and will try again with a fresh built 383 or maybe i blow it up and i just wasted $600 or $700, instead of several thousand...
