I pulled the engine and transmission from the car recently and found some small damage on the firewall where the tunnel meets it. It appears to have been there a while and didn't happen when I pulled the engine. One of the engine mounts was sheared at the rubber when I pulled it so most likely that allowed the engine to make contact at some point in its life. Any suggestions on how to go about repairing it so it doesn't get worse? I was planning on scuffing it up and using some plastic repair epoxy you can get at the hardware store. Not too concerned with looks as it will be covered up, I just don't want it to get worse!
If you want some strength get a fiberglass cloth lit with resin and hardener. Easy to use. Mix up fiberglass and put cloth in and wet and stick to cracks and smooth out. You can use some more resin to fill low spots but do a thin layer at a time. If you aren't worried about strength buy some short strand pre mixed fiberglass. Just mix in a strip of hardener and mix and then apply to crack to get it smooth. You can sand either and then paint

I'll check out the pre mixed stuff, sounds like that should do the job.
If you are gonna spend the time, do it right and use the fiberglass and resin.
From the looks of your pic, the putty won't hold and is a poor substitute for a repair such as that.
if you don't know how, there are books and u-tube videos, that will teach you.
But, its your vehicle, and you can do whatever you want.
