Default 1982 Commercial - Blooper Quiz?

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pHTDfOFtmIw

Although muted in other shots, what looks blatantly out of place at minute-frame 5:23 in this official GM commercial?

Enjoy -

probably realized they didnt have the shot. these commericals were like for shows or displays where they play on loop.

Love the paint booth workers with no respirators.
Awesome 1980's "driving" gloves.

This looks like a 1980 or 81 emblem.
The fuel door emblem is incorrect for model year 1982. What do I win ?

I did a picture of the factory flaws from this commercial years ago. Look at the bumper cover gap in the rear bumper picture from the video as well as the seat cover wrinkles and the gap on the glove box door (which none of these issues were ever fixed in production). Just think how pissed our customers would be if we sent them seat covers with those wrinkles in them...

I guess I missed the issue because at 5.23 it shows an aluminum wheel. But 5.22 it looks like the wrong emblem again.

But before that it almost looks like a 1978 gas door emblem, I can't tell.

But then again look at the bumper cover original fit on my own car

Awesome - thanks for sharing. Makes me want to buy one...oh, wait. I have one!

Seriously, I'd never seen that video. The install of motor and suspension were neat to see. Also the paint booth...ground breaking in it's day!

You guys are pretty good (and, thanks for the detailed commentary/website photos Willcox!). Unfortunately, GM "repurposed" video footage from the prior year. The car in the commercial is using a 1981 cross flags emblem. The emblem was the same on 1980-81 except the '80 used a bright silver border/surround and the '81 used a black surround as used in the '82 C3 commercial. I read that it was due to the design sign-off delay for the '82 emblem because of working out the related but unique Collectors Edition version of the emblem. But, the '82 commercial had to be released by late June of '81 in order to meet the Dealer New Car Intro Show deadline.

Also, great catch on the lack of any breathing protection in the paint booth. I can't believe that GM management also condoned the painter wearing the funky fedora hat, either.

All & all, quite a throwback.

I worked on an auto assembly line from 77-82. This was the time when the US auto industry went to hell. Even Ford acknowledged the inferiority of US production cars to foreign built cars. They hauled us all in to a room in small groups. They had 1 of our cars plucked from the final assy bank alongside a Honda plucked from a dealership. the contrast in build quality was stark. 10 yrs ago we taught the Japanese how to build a car, we were told, now they are teaching us! To be fair, it wasnt just the workers fault, much blame was on poor design, ill fitting parts, Regardless, massive layoffs and a change in plant design destroyed Detroit. I lived it, but left on my own terms, going to a tech school during my layoffs. Havent missed a day of work since in my new field of work.

Big bloopers for me..owning one....rear emblem is not a 82 CE emblem (obviously a prototype) as well as the wheel emblems.

Enjoyed that.....'all corvettes are NOT RED!' @#$%^ ARGH!

UnkaHal

Mr Wilcox, well caught...don't all new Camry's have that same WTF 'slash' in the rear bumper? LOL

This one is the hood fit problem...Yea Verily the 82 CE had 'pretty good' quality VS...the rest of the C-3's (I've had 5).

My 'new' 17,900 miles original CE had a hood fit problem that was driving me nutz. As you can see in the Day-One pick...the drv. side of the hood was sitting proud of the fenders and headlight panel by a good 3/16th ".

What a pain to get that even and flush again;
Remove hinge
Cut down hinge 3/16th
Re-weld hinge
Grind it perfect.
paint it
reinstall
shim to perfection!
