Since you have a new one coming, I would take this one and mount the gray casting part in a vise, gently, and then use a pliers and try to turn the key and those ears counter clockwise. If you are too rough your libel to brake the ears off, but maybe it will turn back first. I couldn't stand not knowing. Good luck with it.
Can these locks be disassembled, like other locks on the Vette? If so do so and pull the pins and release the key. Now in saying that I don'r see any cover that allows you to access the pins in your pics. I wonder what that thin " horizontal wire" in the slot is for. Ike

I think it senses when the key is in the switch. When you put the key in the switch and hear a clicking noise as it goes in, it's the teeth of the key bumping/rubbing on that wire/spring
So to close the book on this one . . . I received the new cylinder. The key freely goes in and out and turns to all positions. I installed the cylinder into the column, put the column back in the car and the beast fired right up! Thanks to all who participated in this thread.
