Default Strangest Problem. Help please

Ok...1973 corvette runs and drives fine. Almost everything works fine...but..........
if I turn my headlights on in high, it’s fine. The moment I push the button to low, the trans won’t shift out of first. Auto transmission. Head lights off, no issues, high beams, no issues. Lights move from high to low, but trans won’t shift if low beams are on. Someone said to check the trans drop down switch near gas petal. They said there is a electric signal from this switch to the transmission that if you floor the gas petal will drop the trans down. How do I trouble shoot? Does anyone know when this line goes into the trans? If I find this line...I guess I can test for change when I change highs to low....any thoughts?

There's a single wire on the left side of the trans. Unplug it and see if it has power when you are on low beam, if so, then try to find out why.

If it is a 400 then it uses a kick down switch it's either on the fuel pedal or on the carb linkage. If this is the case it sounds like some one tapped into the wire going to the low beam. If this is the case it will stop it from shifting because the switch is closed when it shouldn't be. This is a common problem when adding a turbo 400 in place of a 350. I hope this helps let me know If you need to know more

Factory auto transmission in a 1973 is a TH400 (not TH350). But you are correct that the switch must be closed, this is the only thing that I can think of that would cause what the OP is experiencing.

Couldn't remember if the 350 was an option or not. Just sounds like problems I've run into with people changing over a turbo 350 to a 400.
