Not enough info or pictures to tell for sure, but the price on the surface doesn't sound awful.
All bets are off if rust, damage, customization, etc involved.
On the surface - rusted birdcage issues specifically excluded - it sounds like a steal if mileage is reasonable, foregoing the likelihood of any immediate engine or trans issues. Around 150,000 miles the engine/trans repairs will be imminent. It is good that the prior owner invested in the carpet, brakes, heater core (especially), fuel pump, weather-stripping and with decent paint. I have no clue what your references to "stainless steel sending unit" means, but you're definitely on the right track. Be prepared to be a student of the brilliant (for its time), and very reliable, but nearly forgotten "Crossfire Injection" system. The `82 is an awesome C3 to own on so many levels, and parts are readily available from our C3 parts partners. You'll certainly have plenty of things to update/repair to make it your own, but plenty of hours of cruising enjoyment, as well. Make sure that your wife (if applicable) is on board and enjoys the nice, long cruises together because of the time and $ investment that you will joyously be drawn into to make it your dream hobby car. Welcome (almost) to the club.
Dave
p.s. if/when you come back to this awesome forum, you'll want to bring a few more specifics (please, with just one or two more commas in your sentences) and pics because there are a LOT of experienced and helpful subject matter experts across the spectrum here who can spot things from a mile away if you can help them see/understand through your own eyes. Good luck!

Need more info, but sounds like a decent price, I paid 11 grand for mine. But had body of restoration..and 383 blue printed motor..new interior, new tires with new 18 inch rims..not perfect but I liked it so I bought it lol 78 thousand miles. 5000 on restoration..
Mine is stock just took it out first time runs good a little bumpy but it is 36 years old
the body is good a little what they call alligatoring on the drivers side surface I’m going to enjoy it the way it is
I fear getting the resto fever and crazy spending ?
the left window rattles when opened half way
I guess I’m allready looking for problems!!
