I've read of at least one person who had a bad mount like that and they cut off the mounting area on the frame and then re-welded a new frame mount after the repair was completed. This would require having the splash shield at the rear of the wheel well removed to get at both sides of the frame mount. Also, the top of the frame mount is welded (horizontal weld) on yours whereas on my 79 that part of the frame mount is not welded, only the sides.
Yea I’m thinking for sure the frame portion is going to need to be cleaned up cut and rewelded a reinforcement on it, or would u guys suggest cutting it completely off and going with a new bracket?
I just discussed with my husband who does safety inspections and he thinks its may not be a good idea to cut this frame mount off of the frame and then re-weld on a new bracket. For one thing, few can weld well enough to make that a safe repair and in some jurisdictions a non-factory weld on the frame fails the safety inspection and would require a new frame to pass. On the other hand, cars like mine which are over 25 years old are not required to ever have a safety inspection as long as they stay in the province and are not written off from an accident.
Thanks guys, that’s a great thread for reference @teamo , much appreciated, keeping that around as I’m going through this, fingers crossed that that’s the worst of the body mounts.
