Default Part ID - What Is This?

Hi - I believe this is the "blinker" flasher but I'm not entirely sure - This is out of a early 69 car. It was located behind the passenger side dash/panel area (if I remember right). I'm replacing all the old wiring with new and I wanted to replace all the flashers and fuses. What's interesting to me is the resistor type thing that's attached to it. The paper holds it on but one of the tabs is broke.

Just not sure what it is and what I need to replace it with or if I should fix the tab and keep using it??? Thoughts?

That is the flasher module and what's attached to it is a capacitor which prevented interference on the radio (a click or pop) when the blinker flashed.

Thanks! It's helpful to have confirmation. The new ones don't seem to have the capacitor... should that be of any concern?

Use your existing capacitor, otherwise you could hear a click through the radio each time the signals flash.

For the broken tab, a piece of .015 brass shim stock will solder nicely to a clean wire end.

Great idea. I was wondering how I might fix that. My soldering skills are less to be desired.

Pre tin your capacitor wire end with plenty of solder. Have your brass cut to width, you can bend and cut to length later. After you have a nice amount on the wire hold your solder iron tip on the brass, let it heat real good. Land the wire onto the brass and heat, it should flow good. Let cool.
