i feel like I’ve tried everything without success...
i replace my alternator and still wasn’t receiving a charge...
i removed ground and power wire from alt and cleaned grounds
i replaced bat
i check continuity
i believed I had figured out the issue, see below... but after hardwiring directly from alt to battery still I’m pulling no charge.... (with a new wire)
is is it possible the alternator burned out due to hooking it up with a short and running it for a short period of time? So if I replaced & fixed the short I may actually be successful 2nd time around?
Some reading has me believing it may be “fuseable links” could a blow fuse link cause this issue, and my hardwire not having one be the reason for no charge... hmmm if anyone could inform me of how to check them on an 80’ C3 I’d appreciate a lot thanks!
You can check for a magnetic field by holding a screwdriver near the bearing end. You should get a magnetic pull with the engine running. The field coils are getting power if it is magnetic.
You can easily fry the diodes if you hook things up wrong. They can be checked with a typical multi-meter. Ohms are only supposed to flow in only one of two possible directions.
