The VIN won’t help you to answer these questions, but there is a metal plate on the door jamb, driver’s side that identifies the exterior and interior colors. Only the build sheet or the dealer invoice shows what your car was born with from the factory. What year is your Corvette?

You're going to have to supply a little more information. The year to start. When you open the drivers door there is a plate riveted to the body just above and inside the top door hinge. What does it say? That has the original color. On the engine block just in front of the passenger side cylinder head there is a flat surface on the block with two sets of numbers. What are they? One set will tell you the engine plant and what it is and the other will have a derivative of the vin number if it is original (or not) to the car. If the engine has been rebuilt at one time that might be missing. There are also casting dates on the block, heads and most other parts but you need to provide something and pics if you have them.
Edit: I see Z06LMB beat me to it! Takes me 10 mins. to type a couple of sentences... By the way, welcome!

Depending on the year, the VIN will tell you if your C3 was a small block or big block.

Original interior and exterior color codes, along with the time built date, are on the trim tag on the driver's door hinge post. St. Louis shown.

Bowling Green tags have a different format, but the color and trim information is still there.

Check birdcage and frame rust.

You will need factory documentation with the car or the tank sticker in order to determine the options the car came with, including the optional big block engine. Ask the seller for any paperwork he/she may have on the car.
