So I cranked my 77 up the other day (as I am trying to keep it running once a day until it's back on the road again), and I notice some dripping towards just right of the center of the engine bay. The fluid was clearish/black, and smelled like gasoline.
I'm no mechanic, but I am trying to learn. I am taking a closer look this afternoon but I am assuming that it could be one of the hoses connect to the fuel pump or the pump itself?
Gasoline is a solvent, so it degreases as it runs down and that's why it's black. It's most likely a hose or line fitting. Get under there or put it up on jackstands and have a look. You didn't say whether it leaks when running or just when sitting. If it leaks only when running, it's probably between the pump and the carb.
you are doing more harm than good by starting it everyday. Unless the engine reaches full operating temperature you are just building up contaminates in the oil.
Have a fire extinguisher real close, with air cleaner off, in good light, start and inspect all fuel fittings/connections. Should be able to locate. If leak is where fuel line enters carb, be careful, the screw in fitting can strip easily. Mark
The feed hose from the metal line on the frame to the fuel pump is a molded "S" shaped hose. I would look it over good. Some folks try to replace it with a length of standard fuel hose and it often kinks so be sure to replace it when you do, with the molded "S" hose. Most of the major Corvette vendors carry it. You can also probably order it through a auto parts store such as NAPA. https://www.paragoncorvette.com/p-35...-hose-kit.aspx
Yes, all is good. However I did replace that cheap squeeze clamp they send with the hose with an actual hose clamp. There was still a small drop but now it’s not leaking at all.
