What kind of info? Seeking or sharing? If seeking, looking for what appears right or what is incorrect? Happy to help, but need to know more.

So I'll try again.

Looking for info on 1971 coupe VIN: 194371S107270. I googled the vin & checked the C3 registry without success. No pics yet of the tach or console plate and have no idea of birdcage, mounts & frame condition. It's a lady looking for info on her recently deceased husbands car.

Any help in decoding what this was / is gratefully received.

Stuart

My ninja editing skills are commensurate with a mid 50's former engineer so you beat me to the punch

you need to provide the engine code, letters, found on the pad in front of the passenger side cylinder head. You can compare the last 6 digits of the VIN to what you find on that same pad to see if they match.

Engine is dressed like an LT-1, but all of those were four speeds.

Yes and it has the BB hood but the pics I have are very frustrating as one just misses out on seeing if the were any 454 badge holes in the hood, or seeing all of the tach etc..

The car is a ZQ3 base engine (350ci - 270hp) coupe with an automatic. The tach will have a 5300 rpm redline.

The car has been dressed up to look like an LT-1 with hood, valve covers, air cleaner sticker and I'll assume console plaque.

Thanks. I'm digging and being told that the pics may be up to 2 years old and it's sat outside and much worse condition now. Shame but for her, I'll go and see it anyway.

A pic of the trim tag inside the drivers side door frame will be a big help in noting if the car has had a color change.

I REALLY like this car, but I may be biased. Ours is also a base 270 horse, automatic, non AC.... and I changed the reverse lights out to have 4 stop / tail / turn signals. Ours is Steel Cities Gray (original color), but we would paint it yellow if we ever decided to change it! Good luck with your research. I LOVE those wheels & sidepipes too, by the way!

Check the tach as mentioned... also any 70-71 LT1 cars should have the inner fender holes for the TI box even if the system is missing.
probably a 270 HP 350. ONE thing to note, the push in oil cap, though the cap is later, if the valve cover is a real 71-72 cover with the smooth round opening for the push in oil cap, they are rare and have not been available for years... Perhaps the car was done with a donor car. I see what appears to be a plug for a smog hole in the manifold, only 71 SB with smog was the LT1.as well.

oldgto. I feel the same way. I don't have room for a third C3 but something about this car urges me to take a look. It's only 60 or so miles from me but amazingly, only a couple of miles from a mate Derek who has a bright yellow '74 and he's hoping to take a look today. If it's in the condition in the pics I'll get to see it next week.

firstgen. I have a '71 LT-1 but I take your suggestions on board. I've just had my valve covers off for polishing and took a pic of the codes inside

CE indicates an engine replaced under warranty. TXB is the ID code for a 75-77 truck block. The 70 appears to be hand stamped.

A replacement engine? Looks like a '75 Camaro or something, changed under warranty...?

Ooops! Mike beat me to it!

Thanks Mike & Stephen and as I thought. I'm still planning on going over the car, not to purchase but just to advise the Widow on a fair selling price.

I offered to go see this car one particular weekend but it wasn't 'convenient' so I got the hump and left it at that.. It's resurfaced again so I am now going over tomorrow afternoon to take a look. Having sold my 72 I do have room in the garage although I'd never really desired a yellow car. I have since found that it does run
