C3 values?
I've been watching the values of C3s, mostly 68-72, though 73-79 as well, for the past 2 or 3 years. I noticed them dropping considerably, but in the last few months, have been climbing at a pretty good pace. Anyone else noticing this?

Its never a thought, they arent bank accounts. Just enjoy it while you got it.
Its hard to lay a "value" on something anyways the buyer will figure that one out should you agree.
Is this trend asking or selling prices?

The C3's seem to be maintaining pretty strong numbers here in Southern California.
It's been my experience that what trends in SoCal, automotively speaking, eventually bleeds across to the rest of the country.

I have seen asking prices increasing but seen a fair amount of cars across 68 to 82 just sit and get relisted,
Seems it has to be special and priced well to sell,
C3s just arent a savvy investment unless maybe you bought a 435 4 speed convertible new in the day and never drove it.

And as Bats said- these cars a listed for a while- just look at the C3 classified...what I think are great deals taking months to sell.
Hagerty does a great job following sales- as it's their business-

Its true that’s theres some variance by region, but I think you might be being misled by small samples. I’m not sure where you are getting your trends, but C3 prices really have been pretty flat over the last few years. I don’t think it’s correct that they have been dropping considerably but rising significantly lately. Of course the 68-72 will continue a considerable separation over 73-82.

I paid a "strong" price for a mint, 18,000 mile, 1981 4spd with two tone paint in 1991. 27 years later the prices still hover around what I paid for it. The miles are now over 50,000 smiles but I have not regretted anything about it. I also purchased a new Honda Accord in 1991 for almost the same amount of money.....I don't even want to know what that is worth today!

Partly With everything is a click away I do not believe the opinion is influenced as much by region as it is by the observers personal view, the veneer they place on it.
Kind of a glass half full or empty idea.
I find the 73 in a special world of its own but if i had to i would lean it to 74 and up but then i see it edge back towards 68 to 72.
"Separation" i believe that is it right there c3s had a long run with down right epic changes along the way,
And i have seen a steady while perhaps slow at times increase in the 68 to 72 asking prices, yes, i know asking isnt getting but some basketcase 68 to 72s are selling for what a savvy shopper can find a driver later c3 for and that tells me something about what people want.
Due to higher production numbers I doubt 68 to 72 will do what c2s are doing very soon I do believe the separation of pre and post 73 c3s will continue to widen.

I've been shopping for a '68-72 C3 for a freind and have noticed that asking prices are higher than when I bought mine three years ago,
1974 and up prices are still lower than the earlier C3's, I believe to be because they are less desirable.

market is saturated with flood damaged cars, not just classics but used cars as a whole, when people evacuate they more often then not cannot get their stored classics to safety, even if the vehicles arnt damaged the storage buildings they have lived in for 20 years has been... just look at prices regionally for anything 60 to mid 80 comparing prices in southern states to that in northern states. look at the aftermath of Katrina and how used car prices as a whole took a plunge, then started to recover until the floods in texas then florida.

I’ve owned a C3 for less than a year. This forum taught me just about everything I need to know in order to make it the way I wanted. I changed literally everything so that meant a lot of time spent on this forum. Which meant I came across many threads not related to whatever I needed to learn for whatever ridiculous thing I was doing to my car.
Couldn’t help but notice... a LOT of folks want to know if a $7500 C3 is really only worth $6k. Or if a 78 L82 that had dealer pinstripes applied when new is worth more or less. Etc. Ad nauseam. Every “C3 value” thread or some other iteration that hatches and slowly dies is replaced by 5 more dollar-hungry click baiters.
I don’t actually take it this seriously. It’s all in good fun. 30 seconds in Bill sums up my feelings on this matter....
