Default air filter suggestion

Hey guys,
Freshening up fluids and taking care of the routine maintenance items are on my near term "to-do-list".
I've read more than a few posts recommending WIX oil filters (part # 51069 indicated on WIX website).
I would think they make great air filters as well. I have the stock dual snorkel air cleaner for the base "k" 350.
WIX website indicates part # 42101 air filter.
Does anyone here recommend their air filters? Is this the correct part number to fit the stock air cleaner?
I don't think it's necessary to spend $40 on a K&N filter.
Any advice is appreciated.

Any brand of a paper air filter will suffice.

I tend to agree. I'm sure that some brands are "better" than others, but I have never really heard of any real comparison info. I have seen some that had more filter material--more pleated paper--that should go longer before getting plugged up. But you don't drive in dust storms anyway, do you?
Definitely stick with a paper/origional type, not a k&n type.

K&N filters claim to aid increased power. They can claim that because they have a more porous filter than most other brands. That lets more air in...but it also lets more 'dirt' in. So, the decision is yours as to what is "best" for your engine. For everyday purposes, I would choose the air filter that does the best job of filtering dirt, etc. from the air going to the intake. If I was at a drag strip, I would likely not use any air 'filter' to maximize incoming airflow.

Thanks guys. The old element that was in the car is marked "AF-157". Darn thing is dirty! Looks like it hasn't been changed in a while.
Just want to find the proper fitting replacement. Help her breathe a bit easier.

You can always use compressed air to blow the debris/dirt out of the present filter ( FROM THE INSIDE, BLOWING OUT! ). Once all the loose stuff is gone, you can make a visual assessment of its ability to continue in service: blow from the outside-to-inside to feel the strength of the airflow inside the filter. For "normal use", an undamaged filter could be reused more than once. They are designed to provide good airflow for full WOT conditions. There should be no problem re-using it for normal operation, unless you consider its condition to be "TOAST".

Default Small filter inside Main Air Cleaner housing?

Thanks, is the little filter needed? If so have you just made one or bought it? Thanks!

this is an old thread about completely different air filter. sounds like you are asking about a setup like this. it is not a filter. it is a flame arrestor to stop you from burning the paint on your hood if it backfires. i think it is just a piece of screen to hold the top on which is the part that keeps the fire away from the paint. in the future, please start a new thread with your question-issue. people realize they are reading 2 or 3 or 15 year old posts and jump back out before they get to you.

Just clean it. Don’t normally ever need to replace that unless it gets lost or destroyed.
