>Car has not been driven in about five years and will need a full tuneup, tires, brakes etc.…

Yeah, probably brake LINES, a new Master Cylinder, rebuild the rusted calipers, replace the rusted gas tank, you're in a world of hurt with a car that has sat for 5 years.

I can guarantee you the AC doesn't work and that'll be $1500 right there.

Anything with rubber bushings or seals is now rotten.

It went INTO storage because something was serious wrong with it and has gone downhill from there. And if he tells you about the "One thing" why
it got parked, he didn't tell you about the 5 others that made that one not worth fixing.

Because you can't drive it you have NO IDEA of the condition of the transmission, differential, etc. It might not even go into gear.

Do you want a car or a project? Because this is a project.

All that having been said, I wouldn't pay him a penny over $5000 for it. Assuming YOU are qualified to do all the work it needs, and don't have to pay others.

Is this the car from the other thread?

I thought it didnt run or drive? Are you trolling us?

A car sitting 5 years will need more than a tune up....

$16k is a fair price for a chrome bumper 4 speed needing a little work. I'd say the owner knows the value of his car and priced it reasonably. The car as described would sell pretty fast where I live, at that price point, in the spring. Collector cars don't sell well where I live in the winter. YMMV

Might have been less confusing had you updated in the orginal thread,
Be that as it may, if it passes rust inspection it might be worth 15 but just because it runs and drives doesnt make it a sound car,
Dont be bashful, Post some pictures

Bats, my concern is spending a few hours looking at and researching a car (at a minimum) only to find out the asking price for a $10k car is $40k. No thanks if I don't know that your asking price is in a real realm of prices it is just not worth my time.

I have asked questions about a few cars were the owner is unrealistic in the asking price. I ask them how flexible are they, if they are not I politely let them know that we are not in the same ball park and I politely tell them why. No point in spending time and energy in a car that at least you don't think is realistic. Ike

No matter what you offer, the seller can humiliate it. The seller is insecure.
So, make damn sure you low ball the offer. Say, $2K......something definitely loooow.
Then, when he's acting insulted, go in for the kill on what he expected. Make hilarity out of his asking price.

Yup........the insecure, clueless seller will suddenly jack Up whatever the offer is. Sellers like that are a PITA to try to be logical with.

I agree with Zoomin's in definition:
it would be 25% off a realistic price of a car with original engine.

Except, IMHO, though, and this is basis very little info about this particular Corvette's condition, I just do not see decent 72's even with a NOM going for less than 14 or 15. But hey, do the research on completed sales and see what you turn up, maybe I am wrong. Also, I would at least do the homework and go talk to the seller, all you are out is your time and every Corvette experience is educational in my view, plus at this point, nobody knows what this seller is thinking.

Good luck in your search!

This one is fragmented into two threads

Ike,
I couldnt agree more with these remarks,
Why do you think i called buyers who wont names a price cheesedicks?
I dont waste time with them past an email.

Thing is like joe is saying slam these fisher guys with an insulting lowball,
Well, thats fine if you want to just play dbag games with them and didnt really want to be a serious buyer but i dont care how cutsy or whitty you try to be with it the type guy who fishes for offers might be a clueless dreamer, his price might be 40k for a 10k car but he is ego driven, mountain sized ego fragile as glass and he will blow off lowballers as idiot, broke wastes of his time, wanting something for nothng, so you giggling at him and oiffering 10k from 2k on his in his mind 40k car wont help, it will just **** him off.

Far better to tell them like ike says we are in different ballparks and move on.

No link?
Hah, found it, and yet another same thread as this posted in sales,

The cl ad and forum ad leave a lot of questions,
Do you recall about a year ago a member posted his chromie, i cant recall year, it looked like a stunning show queen, his post was asking what to do as it was more rust than car and he had if i recall correctly paid in the 20s for it thinking it was up to par and right, it wasnt.

The car you linked to might just be a great deal or just like this threads car could be more rust than car, we simply do not know,
And the one you posted is auto, that hurts a lot,
But it does show what 12k will buy and its more than what this threads car offers

Cool Change. You are a newbie to old Vettes. Read! https://www.corvetteforum.com/forums...-corvette.html. Now go inspect the frame and bird cage. If everything is as you described and frame and cage are ok, put a battery in it. See what works electrically. Crank starter. If this all passes, I would think offer 8 and let him push it up to 10. You can't buy this car running, driving and pretty for less than 20.

NOW go inspect frame and bird cage. Front and rear suspension also. Brakes. Fill brakes and step on pedal HARD! nothing goes pop and pedal doesn't go to floor? Good enough for test drive.

we are 40 posts into this thread and we still don't know what the op should offer. advising him todo hours of research into what a car might be worth given a certain condition is fleeting.
not worth your time. the seller's price and his idea of condition are what its based on to him. you may waste hours and hours researching and inspecting the car figuring out what to offer him....
baloney.. just ask him..
