1977, Engine issue.
First post. How is everyone?
So I was driving the other day and my vette started making this loud knocking sound from the engine and the car felt as if it was about to stall out, while moving. I've noticed it does this around 20 RPM, but can't reproduce the noise while in park and having someone rev the engine, therefore have not been able to pinpoint the exact location of the issue.
Just hoping anyone may have some thoughts as to what this may be. I'm new to the car game, but rather than take it to a mechanic instantly I'm trying to learn by fixing it up myself.

Welcome to the forum. If teh noise cannot be reproduced when it is in park and oyu rev it up to 2000 rpm.
Then in a SAFE area...get the noise to occur while driving and turn your engine off and see if it is still there when the engine is not running and come to a stop.
Now seeing how I am not there it is up to you to attempt to do this IF you feel you can because I am not going to hear that you crashed your car due to you can not drive it when it is NOT under power .or did it in traffic and somebody hit you.
Common sense would tell you that you do not turn the ignition switch ALL the way OFF. Because if you do.. the steering wheel will lock. OBVIOUSLY a good long straight section of road would be wise to test it on or in a VACANT parking lot.
Come back with the results if you do it.

Is it an automatic or 4 speed? If it has a clutch you might want to just get on a hill and put it in neutral and see what happens first.
