Gas leak or over filled
I may have made a mistake on Saturday.
I went and got gas for my 1971 LS 5, and instead of stopping when the pump clicked off, I added some more.
When I got home ( 5 miles away) I had a strong odor of gas, and when I looked under, the left rear suspension, and spring was wet from gas.
No dripping leak, I parked and idled the car, and saw nothing spilling out.
Is it possible that the extra fuel caused it, or should I get it up in the air, and look at the tank, and the fuel lines for a leak.
It all went away the next day?

Most likely the venting tube purging the excess fuel. Another area to check would be the filler neck gasket. Doesn't sound major, since it has already stopped. A bad tank would continue to leak.

Yes, that sounds logical. I was stupid, trying to get it to round off the dollar amount. I am going to get it up, and take a peek. But, no longer leaking, and was fine running (and yes I had 2 fire extinguishers nearby)

Look around the drivers side of the tank....there should be a vent nipple with some kind of hose......see if your leak is coming from there.

Same thing happened with my 72, The is a black plastic check valve that is supposed to stop the gas from heading to the nose of the car and the charcoal tank. The valves fall apart and leak or don't stop the gas from flowing, When I thought I was topping off my tank all I was doing was filling it and then it weeped down the tube and fill the tank and leaked out there. Now I stop once the gas level hits the fill tube and I'm good. I can drop the tank and replace the valve but I don't have the time to do that so this is how it will be until then.
