Default Question regarding interior dye, what is everyone using these days?

Since it turned winter here in northern way to early I am lining up some winter type projects. One of the items
I need to address is re-dying some of the interior trim pieces. Specifically, header and A pillar trim, kick panels,
center console, emergency brake cover and convertible header trim. The pieces are black and will be re-dyed
black, but some are worn and different shades. I want to re-dye them, but I do not want that super glossy sheen.

What products is everyone using that gives good coverage and the right sheen?

Thanks,
Joe

I've gone through Willcox Corvette to get their dye for the interior. I went from the original Firethorne Red to a custom Gunmetal for almost all my interior parts. I ordered a few parts and door panels in the black color, but with the dye you can't tell which is which, the coverage is excellent with no bleed through. Preparation is key, so make sure you clean the items really well, use a de-greaser, and go with multiple light coats.

Just finished using SEM (not spray can) when I had my interior completely out of the car. Still need to do the door and t-top panels. Very happy with the low sheen.

SEM in spray cans is O.K. But the best is SEM liquid mixed to your interior code (or matched to a part) and sprayed on the parts. Exact color match, very economical (compared to cans), and great coverage. Change any color interior into any other color in two coats!

sem has different blacks. theyre more dark gray than black sometimes.
use sem soap and a light gray scotchbrite.
sometimes sem soap or apc/mild degreaser and a microfiber is all you need to bring back a dirty panel.

I used SEM Classic Coat GM Black in a rattle can (I think they just call it "Black" now, #17093). It has a less sheen than those shown above (although that could be lighting). I am changing colors from Saddle to Black. The few new parts I bought (Corvette America parts I bought from Willcox) in black needed to be dyed because they were a bit too shiny. It looks more like leather than vinyl. I was very pleased with the results using a good de-greaser, scuffing with a Scotch-Brite pad and using an adhesion promoter. The tip on the rattle can puts out a very fine mist and it lays down nicely...if you don't get too close. Getting the part clean is essential. I mostly used Simple Green and for some parts I used a product called Marine Clean that I had leftover from when I de-greased the underside of the car.

On my 71 dark saddle - I used spray paint / dye from Corvette America - they match really well. I did spray the center console - shifter area with a clear satin to help give it more durability. I drove 3k miles this summer and the spray painted parts held up well.

I do agree that cleaning the parts is critical. I washed all the parts with dawn and then prepped the parts with prep-sol. waited overnight and then sprayed the parts, let them sit overnight and then cleared some of the parts. I got the satin paint from Walmart.

The spray covered red roof panels. light brown door panels and a black lower passenger pad.

Thanks everyone for the info.
I think I will pick up some of the SEM black and give it a try.
