Difference between 1969 and later door panels?
I have a 69 convertible that is in paint now so I’m getting together the interior this winter. I wanted to know if there is any difference between the door panels for a 69 and 70-77? Coupe and convertible? I know the vendors sell them as 69 and 70-77 but the only difference I see is the 70-77 had deluxe interiors. Is there any other real difference? I’m not building it back to stock so picking up a used set of 70’s door panels in better shape would really help me.
Thanks,
Pat

The center section above the arm rest. These are comfort weave for 69 and (I believe) smooth for 70-77. There was no deluxe interior for 69, so the woodgrain appliques are not issue.
From what I see, the center section of a 69 panel appears as a separate piece and then it does not have stitching across the top.
70-76 have the comfort weave center and stitching across the top.
77 loses the stitching.

I think the 'basic' panels are the same and all will interchange. The differences are: stock issue or deluxe interior, and style of panel above the armrest. The deluxe panels have the matching carpet piece [and trim] at the lower portion of the panel.

Sorry guys but I have both 69 and 71 Corvettes and the door panels are different. You can certainly fit either years back and forth, the attachment points are the same, coverage is the same. Here are a couple photos - notice the contour lines and yes the tan door is the custom interior but that is just the carpet with bright trim and the wood look insert.

I never had problems in the past loading photos to my threads or posts, what up with this?

Thanks for all the help everyone!! I went and bought them as they were advertised as mid 70s door panels and when I got them they are 69 panels!! So a win for me. Just have tho figure how to clean them up. Anyone got any stuff that works best to clean up 50 years of dirt, mold and even some paint overspray?

Trisodium phosphate Or TSP as it is commonly called. Any where they sell paint and painting supplies, any hardware store sells it. Use a stiff bristled brush and a small rag. If you have any overspray still left you can soften it enough to clean once more - use Naptha and neutralize with some mineral spirits on a rag.
Of course always use good sense and test the overspray chemicals on a less noticeable, out of the way spot before using all over.

I washed and scrubbed my 71 door panels with DAWN dish detergent and then let them dry for a day.
I also used carpet cleaner for the cloth parts in the car.
I was then able to re-dye ( spray paint ) the door panels.

Be aware that the backing for the stock door panels is a fiberboard material (can you say "cardboard"?). Water on the vinyl surface is fine; but if it soaks into the backing material, it can be damaging....especially at the lower attachment points.
