Yes thats what they are for, sorry seats are still installed. Doing the new install myself and want to know what they are named when buying them.
You should purchase the seat installation kit... it has all the correct clips and rings required to do the installation. I'm the guy here that does the installations but I'll also tell you it's cheaper (unless you do it yourself) to buy the pre-mounted covers vs. trying to install. I'll also tell you that I will not... nor will I ever install new seat covers over old foam. You can read about this at this link http://repairs.willcoxcorvette.com/w...-seat-foam.pdf
I would also advise you to watch this video: http://www.corvetteamerica.com/video/79_82scInstall/ and while doing so you'll have to ignore the guy calling out the video clip sizes. He calls a 5/8" clip by 1" which is not correct. (I'm not sure why he calls's it 1")... but he's wrong..
I would also advise you getting the seat clip installation tool and watch how he uses it and you don't pull the clips up and over the wire, you flip them over. If you try to pull up and over you'll break the clips, if you flip them over you won't.
I have two jobs here that I still do, one is soft tops and the other is seat cover installations and while I don't like doing soft top installs, I do like doing the seat covers.
