Default Speedometer Driven Gear

What is the stock gear count for a 1980 L82? Stock rear end and I pulled a 23 tooth gear out of the trans. Not sure if it was the right one, speedo was barely readable with how much it jumped. Could an incorrect gear cause the jumping I was experiencing? Transducer is working and new cable, haven't had chance to test them though with the trans all apart.

If the driven gear adapter is plastic, hunt down an aluminum one.

I don't think the speedo gear would cause that problem. More likely a sticky cable, or a problem with the speedo head itself.

23 tooth turns out to be the wrong size and the hole for the end of the speedometer cable was completely worn out. Ordered a new 8 tooth drive gear and a 19 tooth driven gear.
