Engine Swap is Killing Me. HELP!!!
What I decided to do when swapping parts over from the old engine was taking the old filter housing and, after seeing that it would bolt up perfectly, attaching it to the new engine. The new engine had a VERY large filter housing that reduced ground clearance a lot. It almost looked like the oil filter housing had another housing attached to it, adding about 2-4 inches in length. I liked the old 1972 housing and for that reason I switched it over. Thought nothing of it.
Now she's leaking oil from there. I don't remember much about the install and whether I made sure the gaskets were in good shape. I'll take it apart again and check both mating surfaces. Surprised I made such a rookie mistake while doing so well on everything else. A simple mistake like that could have cost me the engine. Good thing I was keeping an eye on the oil pressure the whole way up. I was ready to shut her off and pull over if it got too low.
I'll let you all know what I find. I fear that there may have been some differences I overlooked in the filter housings. At least I can take my time and make sure I don't miss any small details.
