Anyone have any suggested of trusted engine builders in Birmingham, Alabama? I would like to find someone who can listen to my motor and give me some suggestions on what is ticking/knocking and what the next course of action is. Would like to salvage the motor and get it repaired if I can do it for a reasonable price. Otherwise, crate motor time.
Slow time of year, off-season but if there's a nearby race scheduled...
check your local circletrack, dirt or asphalt, walk into pits; walk around and ask the participants who's doing good work? Keep in mind their CT motors are built with endurance in mind. Don't be a jerk but don't be shy, they'll talk.
Good luck, I have been looking for a while. I was with the local corvette club MACC for several years, great people and events but they are mostly newer Vettes. IMO, stay away from Hesco.
If you just want some guidance at a fair price you may want to ride out to Leeds and talk to these guys https://www.brentonsauto.com/index.htm.
They are not engine builders and do not have a fancy shop, but they are knowledgeable and will let you know what you are up against without draining your wallet.
