I'm getting the Auto Gear rock crusher wide ratio trans soon. The clutch throwout bearing is bad and makes a lot of noise. I took the pressure plate and disc out and they seem fine for a stock unit about 12 years old. I don't know how many miles on it. Since it is a PITA to do this repair I'm thinking of a unit that is a step above stock. Nothing racing or heavy pedal pressure. Willcox has a package that is reasonably priced. Any suggestions?
Thanks, Dave
Everytime we have this topic come up, McLeod Super Street Pro comes up as the overall winner.......
It is also what I run.....super light clutch pedal and no chatter.
Lars had a thread here about actual engagement too and many a high dollar clutch failed it....but not the McCleod.
A bargain at $300 https://www.summitracing.com/parts/mcl-75221/overview/
Agree with Jebby... I also went McLeod Super Street Pro ... very nice clutch, holds well, not a heavy pedal. Rated to 500hp, and can at least attest that it supports 400hp just fine. Comes with the throw-out bearing and alignment tool if you order the kit - Jeg's and the others all have it. Put in a new pilot bushing and have your flywheel resurfaced while it is apart.

Wow Thanks for that info. That's exactly the problem I was having even with zero pedal play I still got a reverse gear grind. Almost purchased the same replacement clutch!! If the pedal pressure is about the same having the clutch disengage at .500 of travel that sounds great. Thanks again.

In about 2 weeks I will have a '62 Vette shipped in from out of State for a clutch job - it is having such severe grinding/failure-to-disengage problems that it can't be driven. I will do a complete checkout of the clutch linkage and travel, and will test the "exact correct reproduction" clutch and pressure plate that is in the car now. I'll be doing a full photo sequence of the process and technique for correct clutch system evaluation and test. I should have the article and photos here on the Forum around the beginning of February. Watch for it by doing an "advanced search" with my name in the "username" box and keyword "clutch." It will be in the C1/C2 Forum, but everything applies equally to any C3 clutch system.
