I just rebuilt the shifter on my stock 72. Adjusting the shifter is a PITA. I have a question. Why is there a clevis on the end of the 1-2 rod while the reverse and 3-4 rods have a swivel. It would be much easier to make the adjustment with the swivel on 1-2 instead of a clevis. Is there a reason it is only on the 1-2 rod? Thanks.

If you are adjusting the linkage, here is the pdf from the factory AIM.

Thanks, I used this and its good except......How in the world do you fit the adjustment gauge in when the shifter is installed? I made a BIG mistake in that I fit it in just to check that it fit when I had the shifter on the bench but removed it .before install it in the car I should have left it in when I installed it and then it would have been much easier to remove than to install in such tight quarters. My console is still in the car. Removing it looks like it will give me more room, but the slot is still well below the upper bolt with little room to work. Any tricks????

You have to jack the Corvette up and view the shifter slots underneath. I made a gauge too, but decided it was not needed. You can lineup the slots by "eyeball" and do great. Also you play with the shifter after your adjustment and see if it is smooth, if not, then tweak adjust it again.

This is the way I do it, hope this helps.

If you find out why the clevis, let me know.

You do not need any tool...just a helper inside to move the shifter as you adjust the rods while maintaining the neutral gate
