In the process of replacing the dash bulbs with LED's I noticed that the A/C Control head had fallen apart preventing me from adjusting between vents, defrost etc. I replaced the control panel and now the air moves around the dash as before but now I don't get any cold air and I don't believe the compressor is cycling. I checked the fuse under the dash and it's good but is there something I've over looked? I adjusted the temperature nut as per the shop manual and It was working previous to the panel R & R (well as good as a 40 year old corvette cools) but not now. Thanks for any suggestions.
If you switch it to A/C and the clutch on the compressor DOES NOT engage. Then you might need to look at the green wire that goes to your A/C compressor and make sure you are getting 12 volts to it. IF you don't...then I would have to look at the switches in-line in your high pressure line and see if any have come off
Power from your controls in your console will go to pressure switches that IF the system is right...it will allow that voltage to get to the compressor. IF you are low on freon...it will not allow the power to get to the compressor to PROTECT it.
Do you have a factory service manual for your car and a wiring diagram???
Make sure the connection on the new control head is plugged in a also. And if I am not mistaken...there is a dark brown wire that plugs into the A/C harness and it must have 12 volts to it when the key is on.
****EDIT****
Just because you checked the fuse for the A/C in the fuse panel does not mean that the BROWN wire is getting power. You can have a bad connection in your fuse panel. The LIGHT GREEN wire coming out of the connector that plugs into your A/C heater controls is what will go to your pressure cycling switch and then the wire turns to a DARK GREEN wire going to your A/C compressor and also goes to computer controls also. The BLACK wire in the connector that plugs into your A/C compressor is a GROUND and if you do not have a ground...the clutch will not work also if all else is good.
IF your system is charged up and ALL is good and under pressure...you do not need to crank the engine often times. Simply move the lever to A./C WITH THE KEY ON.and you can hear the clutch engage and click loudly.
