I painted the grills on my 69 that came out well. Normally I try to spray everything with SPI - either the epoxy or the matte black at 6% (semi-flat), but most little stuff I use the ceramic 2K 2-part underhood black from Eastwood. Down side is that is has a short pot life and is a bit expensive, but it lays out nice. Make sure everything is CLEAN. I've tried a lot of different paints and it seems to work best for me. I've got to trim mine out yet with silver which Ill use an Arget silver paint pen - just have not got that far yet.

Also, FWIW, I use Krylon 1613 industrial (I get it from MSC) for interior parts. I've attached a photo - It's all I have at the moment. I take a ton of pictures before and after and for some reason I neglected to get a photo of these. bugger!

Hope this helps!

Kind of dark, but they came out very nice. Not to flat but certainly not glossy. The 2K stuff works pretty good.

So that’s the Krylon or the 2k?

I had these on my 74 Powdercoated gloss black! I had spray painted them before a few times but this is the best they have looked the longest!

I used SEM trim black on mine. I can’t speak for the longevity of the finish on those pieces because it was just a few months ago, but I painted the windshield trim with it and it has held up pretty well. Two years of being out in the sun and the finish only became a little dull.

As long as you use a paint with an elastomer added (so paint can flex with part movement), you will be fine. Vinyl dyes, paint for plastics, etc will all do what you want. If you use regular paint on these plastic parts, it will eventually just chip and flake off.

I painted mine with Krylon 1613 semi flat black 13 years ago, and haven't touched them since. 30000 miles of driving and nothing has flaked and they still look great.

Dupont makes a nice quality Trim Black as well as SEM. If you want to sign up for the "can" plan I would: wash thoroughly, SEM spray prep, Clear Bond Adhesion Promoter, SEM or Dupont Trim Black, SEM satin (or gloss) clear. This will certainly cost more than a can of Rustoleum plastic, which will work, however you will be much happier with the lasting result. Good luck.

30K miles and 13 years sounds pretty "durable" to me....
