Default Damaged Spindle

I’ve attached some pick some of my spindle. It has nicks and scratches on the surface where the bearing presses on. Everything else is completely fine. Is this spindle safe to use?

As long as the bearings are still a press fit, I wouldn't be afraid to use it.

I have found more damage when cleaning for paint. The base appears to be missing material. Is this safe? I’m worried about it being unbalanced. Should I get it machined?

This is my good spindle. The base is mostly even all the way around.

Looks like it was made that way, no issue that I can see and that is so close to the center of rotation that balance wont be an issue.

The marks are from someone burning off the old bearings and cutting into the spindle. The marks on the back of the flange shouldn't be an issue. I would mic the journals and see if they are undersize, if so they are no good anyway. I don't like the burn marks, they most likely will be ok but I don't think I would use them. I guess it all depends on what you want- an ok job or the best possible.
