Default Refurbished emblems

With a little help from a previous post a while back (I forget the poster's name) I refurbished my header and fuel tank emblems from my 72. It took 3 tries because I'm particular but these are the results. I used porcelain paint and baked in the oven when they were dry.

Not perfect but they'll suffice.

Thanks guys! I appreciate it. Fastimes, it's tedious work and I don't think I would like to start a business doing emblems. I have my own cabinet shop business now and don't have enough time to work on my own car as it is.

Those definitely took some time, patience, and a steady hand. They really look nice.

I wear jeweler repair glasses (the thick ones) and use a very fine paint brush. I then let it dry and scrap off anything that's "not inside the lines". Then bake at 300* for 30 minutes.

Could you give more details on the paint you used and what color red it is?

First, I soaked the emblems in lacquer thinner for a while to remove all the old paint. I then washed the emblems with soapy water to remove any lacquer residue and let dry completely, The emblems were mounted in the bottom of an old shoe box by piercing the tangs in the box. This is also a good base to steady you hand with the paint brush. This is the porcelain paint and brush that I used:

They are available on Amazon. I then painted the emblems by dabbing the color in, do not brush stroke as the paint doesn't flow very well. The black and white were ok but the red gave me fits. I even added a little water to the bottle and that seemed to help some. Don't worry if you get paint on the edges or on the raised sections. Let the paint dry over night and then with a sharp knife or chisel scrape off all the paint from the edges and the raised areas. Go slow and easy so you don't damage the paint on the flat surfaces. After you are satisfied with the results you then bake in the oven. I set mine on the corners of a square cake pan and that worked out well. It takes time and a little patience but you can do it! Good luck!

yours look great! I redid mine as well and the colors came out fine, the problem I had was with the old pitted chrome. I wound up buying all new emblems for mine because it bothered me.

Cabman72, nicely done!!!!!

Here is my version, I used nail polish since I thought it would be more durable. I thinned it slightly with acetone to make it flow better. I basically learned is that you had to do one flat level section at a time. I used modeling clay to hold the emblem at odd angles and filled the particular flat area one section at a time.
