I'm planning on a seat upgrade for my 65 coupe and am trying to choose between late C3 seats or early C4 ones. FWIW, I don't care for the appearance of the later C4 models. I like the idea of the C3 clamshell models but wonder if they're as comfortable as non-clamshell types.
And I wonder if upgrading to C4 seats is as popular with C3s as it is for C2s?
From what I've heard, the clamshell seats are pretty comfortable. I have early C3 seats, and I personally find them better than most cars (definitely better than a Toyota 86 or Ford Edge) but they don't have the best lumbar support.

what style of driving do you do. I wouldnt think the early c3 seats are any better than a c2 seat holding your butt in the center of the seat. I have the c4 sports seaats and wirind the side bolsters and lumbar supports to work. Very comfy and I stay put when I get aggressive on a winding road
The late C3 seats are super comfortable. Try to find the 4 inch bolster version, not 2 inch. Not your best choice for autocross, though.
Your personal and car geometries will matter, too. The C4 seat bolsters may interfere with shifting in some C3s for some people. I can't speculate for a C2, but suggest you try both, if possible, at least to sit in them at a Cars and Coffee.

I agree about the early C3 seats and I have practically thrown myself out of my stock seats although these days I'm a little more subdued in my driving, probably because there's simply no where left in my part of the state to push the limits.
I drove my 79 from Syracuse to San Antonio a few years back. MOST COMFORTABLE DRIVE EVER!!! A few caveats though: im 5'8" and 140lbs. But they are literally the biggest thing i miss now that i own a 68. And that is with them being a tad worn out and tired.. Goodness they were comfy!!
I'm doing the Fiero seat conversion in my C3 right now. Mr. Mikes makes custom covers for Fiero seats and has a lot of Corvette options to choose from. The problem with this mod is the Fiero seats are starting to become hard to find. Just thought I'd throw that out there. I owned a 1986 Fiero and put 150,000 miles on that car so I can tell you first hand the Fiero seat is very comfortable.
Here is a shot of the passenger seat installed after completing the bracket to convert the old seat tracks to the Fiero seat bolt pattern. This seat has not been recovered yet, just mocking everything up.

Yes, Fiero seats are hard to find. I've been watching casually on ebay and CL for a couple of years now with no luck.

Try Pennock's Fiero Forum fs/w section.
I'm eventually converting my 78 to Fiero seats too; they are very nice seats. Btw I have owned at least one Fiero at any given time since 1990 when I first got my license

Wish I still had my Fiero. For some reason they got a bad rap but it was the best car I've ever owned. Other than leaky valve cover gaskets that I could never get to seal for very long and the A/C compressor that locked up at about 6000 miles and replaced under warranty those were the only problems I ever had in 150,000 miles from new. Now you are making me think about going out and picking one up...........

Here's one for $800-. Unfortunately, it only has the stock passenger seat left in it.

I drive a 79 also but I'm 6.2 240lbs and i find them super confortable as well (for a sporty seat). I have no lumbar support but im fine with that
