Steering Column ID Numbers
The steering column in our '77 has what seems to be an odd number on it. The numbers are 158 and then *upside down and really crooked* the number 37.When I read Jim's papers, he identifies the numbers as the first three being the day of manufacture - in this case, 158 (Tuesday, June 7th). The second set of numbers: "37": The first number is the shift that built it, but according to Jim, it would be an "A" or a "B" for first of second shift. The last number is the last number of the year of manufacture (1977).
So it appears that our column is a '77, but what is the 3? Is it possible they changed to a 1,2,3 system for 1st, 2nd or 3rd shift?
And why is it upside down and crooked? Maybe a fun lunch at the bar that day?
