I finished rebuilding my trailing arms and they're amazing! Went to install my rebuilt trailing arms and I realized that with the new bushings, there isn't enough space for my shims. I have my shims marked passenger/drive inner/outer. Is there a trick to wedge these things in or some way to compress the bushing while in the pocket? Thanks.
Here are the pictures: Here's the few shims I'm able to fit This is the passenger side shim pack. Only had shims on the outside, unlike the drivers side which had some on the inside and outside.
There's a guy in my town that used to specialize in C3s but now he does a variety of cars. When I was looking to buy trailing arms he said he could align the vette for me, which is great because no one else in my town wants to touch the thing. I believe by the amount of rust and how seized the shims were that they were the original alignment. If I'm able to keep the original alignment that's great but if not I think I might get the car aligned from the local vette guy.
When you put in the new bushings, what was the overall dimension when you staked them? There's a pretty wide tolerance (.050 or so depending) so the old stack may not fit anymore
Blue82, those bushings need to be compressed with a tool enough that the inner sleeve extends through the beveled washer, then flare the end of the sleeve. The flare should then be filed flat flush to the end of the washer. I will looking for a pic of my homemade tool to post.
