Hello all, I have a 68 that I'm pondering putting up for sale. My father has high expectations on value, so I'm posting here to get some feedback from others more knowledgeable than I. It has a 327 turbo fire automatic, all numbers match, has factory a/c. My dad picked it up about 5 years ago with 25,900 miles on the odometer. However the odometer is broke, so no way to truly figure the mileage. It had some paint touch up done on the front fenders, outside of that this is the paint that was on it. We have driven it about 500 miles since we've owned it, the tachometer stopped working about 100 miles ago roughly. The only other issue is it has an oil leak that we have yet to track down, not major, but still there. Interior is in good shape, dad and his mechanic replaced suspension components when they bought it, saw no rust issues. Rebuilt carb in July of last year, vacuum leak inside of it causing hesitation, runs great now, no more hesitation issues. Pics below, I'm not sure what else I can provide but willing to try to find out more info if it is helpful.
My 2 cents:
* Has some custom features, so a potential buyer could either like or not like, generally decreases the value a little most of the time
*coupe, auto, 327 is a little less
*matching numbers is a plus
*paint looks pretty good to me.
*Suggest you check Haggerty, Corvette DNA and completed ebay sales (go to advanced search, sold, green numbers) and maybe Mecum auctions too. You will not find an exact match, but maybe a half dozen numbers to give you an insight to triangulate a range of prices. This is what I do. My crystal ball says 16 to 19K, a quick guess. Economy is better and spring is here so better market to sell IMHO.
Out of curiosity.... So what does your father think the car is worth? Is he even in the ballpark?
He was thinking 20-25. Hagerty did insure it for 26k, but I know its really only worth what you can get for it. Not sure I'm going to sell it but figured 20k would probably be the max I expected. Thanks for your all's feedback.
Nice looking 68 that appears in good condition. To get top dollar you need to have the car as original as possible. Your car has modifications that are nice, such as the side pipes, wheels and big block hood, but they decrease its value, so you are in the "weekend driver" price range. Top dollar here goes to big block cars, 4 speed trans, convertibles. If you get $20 K for the car, that would be a good deal, unless you want to hold out for that one unique buyer that would pay more for the car because of their special tastes- and that might take months. Anyway, my $0.02
The first thing to improve value is single paint color. Not so much dollar value but less people will walk away right off the bat. But it is your dad's car. His decision on two-tone paint and seats. It would disappoint him to hear he has made it harder to sell with his choices.
Thanks all I appreciate the info and feedback, re: paint this is how the car was when him and his buddy found it. All that was done was touch up to the front fenders where paint was missing. This paint etc is definitely not for everyone that is for sure.
I don't think they are two tone, its the camera making them look lighter in the center. look at the shot he posted looking between the two seats into the back, they look the same in that photo. I have the 68 medium blue interior in my car, and the centers of the seats do photograph slightly off sometimes.
i'm guessing this car is originally international blue with a medium blue interior. the custom fade was probably someone's way of fixing all the rock chips

That is quite possible, the fade does go inside onto the door pillars. My dad keeps referring to it as a Mako vette but I know that is not the case. And I believe you are right that the flash from the picture makes the seats look two tone. Definitely appreciate the info everyone has provided.

yup! my car has medium blue interior also so I know the flash makes it look "funny"
