If you have an NCRS award winner, maybe replating original parts is a good idea. But, you can buy [decent] new parts for less money than having the originals replated (in the USA, anyway).
China (et al) doesn't have environmental protection laws that drive the cost of chrome plating off the charts. So, new parts from overseas are reasonably priced. Obviously, properly plated original parts will be 'better'; but they may cost a lot more to obtain.
I'm using these guy's as we speak for my rears on my 72. My bumpers were in pretty good shape after 47 years. But after having my car painted last year it's something I wanted to have done. I'm going to say it's not cheap. But I didn't shop around. I'm guessing I could have found some place cheaper on the inner-web.
These guy's were near me. In the same location for almost 50 years. I was given a five year guarantee on the plating. Plus I had the chance to see some of there finished work on a Stingray at a local car show. I was more then satisfied. The only down side I could think of is the wait. I was told 6-8 weeks. If you decide to use these guy's I'd drop off the bumpers after the driving season. Hope this is helpful.
My bumpers are in pretty good shape. My father was a chrome plater in Milwaukee for 40+ years, so I always like to have the chrome looking its best. Hard to find a good shop who handles these small orders.
