I have no first hand experience but have not heard good things about Custom Autosound. What I've heard is that the radios don't sound very good.

I had one in my Nova. Buttons didn't work right. Since it was a bit of a long project it was a year before I used it. Called them and basically they said it's out of warranty and would do nothing to help me out.

I used a Retro Sound in my C3 and my C10 project. You will need a decent amp and sub woofer.

Haven't heard much good about custom autosound. I just ordered a retrosound. It's a model that will soon be discontinued (as per their customer service) so it has a big discount.

https://www.retromanufacturing.com/p...21451605639250

Reduced to $259. The replacement is exactly the same except sirius ready and is $399. I need one with 6 pre-outs to run my amp & sub and this fits the bill. If there's any interest I'll snap some pic and post once I have it installed.

I have CS in my 71 that is 90 to 95% as it came from GM 48 years ago and the CAS I installed looks good and operates well for what it is supposed to be, better sound than the OE, allows for better and more speakers and has an mp3 connector.
Its far from sounding even as good as my 06 crew cab Silverado but then the CAS only cost $240 plus a $150 for speakers. Be sure to use the proper speaker wire, in the proper gauge and make a really good ground for the radio.

If all you are going to do is play music off of your phone anyway, why not just install a hidden Bluetooth receiver, and possibly an extra Amp and/or subwoofer? You can keep the stock looking (non-functional) radio in the front, or use that spot for switches, display panel, or the remote for the receiver.

Here's an example at Amazon, Kenwood Marine 400W.

All the "shaft style" stereos that Crutchfield offers are RetroSound.

I'm not interested in modifying my dash/bezel for a single DIN although I really like the Kenwoods I have (big volume **** in center) in several of my other vehicles.

In a t-top or Vert I don't imagine sound quality is all that critical, just volume. In a Lexus, indeed, you can tell the difference between a .MP3 and CD quality sound.

I recommend a good quality REMOTE radio with REMOTE CONTROL.....you get much better quality and features and you can hide it in the Jack compartment.
Less money too! You'll have to upgrade the speakers.

I have a Custom Autosound in my 68 convert. The PO cut the dash, so I have their single DIN model that has a USB port to use a thumb drive or connect to a phone. I get good sound out of it with four Kenwood speakers. My only complaint is when you power down, the next time you power up it does not remember where you were on your play list.
