I'm working on replacing body mounts on my '77, not too bad so far thanks to all the info on the Forum. I've followed all the steps I've seen and have had minimal trouble with stubborn bolts, stuck cage nuts and rusted out brackets. I highly agree with everyone that something like PB Blaster liberally applied beforehand is a great step to keep in mind.
OK, on to my actual question. I've pulled all the mounts on one side and am getting ready to install the new ones, but I have found ZERO shims on any of the old mounts.Would this be correct? I've checked to see if any are stuck on the old rubber mounts or loose on the frame rails and see nothing. I doubt they rusted away, so assume there were none installed at the factory. Figured I'd better finish one side before moving over, so don't know what I will find on the passenger side yet.
If this is so, should I go ahead and put one shim at each mount, or just leave zero?
Thanks again to everyone who posted about body mounts before, I appreciate your shared experience and knowledge.
Most of the body mounts on mine did not have any shims either but I believe it was apart at some point in it's earlier life and whoever did it may not have put back what was there from the factory. Not sure where I've read it, but I've seen some info on the forums in the past about how to shim the body mounts starting from scratch.
Thanks for the input, I appreciate the help.
I think based on your experience, I'll leave as is with no shims and see how the gaps look when everything is buttoned up.
