Rocker channel interchange

Default Rocker channel interchange

Hello
if i were to get a used cut out pair of birdcage rocker channels what years interchange, i got a 68, ive heard all defferent years, even some saying 68-82 all interchange, what are the differences? heard that 73 up were alot narrower also, im not talking about repair or insert channels, hoping to find a used pair from a parts car

I put some 74 channels into a 69 , the channels were an exact fit , the 74 had an extra (different) seat belt mounting plate spot welded on the back , I got them off by grinding down the bracket so I didn't leave holes in the channel.



that's the 74 pieces , with the brackets still on , I used a plasma cutter to open the spot welds.



how the new channels lined up in the 69 body



adding new to old , you can see the rust repair on the base of the pillar as well,



lots of work ! but I didn't find it too bad .

I had rust in the windscreen surround , plus the firewall rivets were rotted away so I had to remove it anyway , made the repair easier to access . but if I could have left them on I sure would have .

Thanks for taking the time to post the pics, it helps me understand what ill be up against soon, i got a line on some used 73 channels, so should fit, i know of some other later channels 76 or 78 but i read somewhere that they are different, near the floor side?

It could be because by then they had a steel floor inside the passenger area and the way that floor was attached makes them a bit different .

I had a 77 but I never really looked at how they did it .

Just make sure the 73 was not in an accident , those channels can be tweaked by a bent frame and with out measuring you wouldn't be able to see it.
