Ok everyone. As you are probably aware by now I've been researching, listening and asking questions in an effort to compile a list of to-dos on my dads C3. Please understand my main focus is to maintain this car. It was my dads so I want to do everything I can to preserve it for my daughter. With that being said I would like opinions on a few things. Some are suggestions people have made and I would like to hear what the general consensus might be.
1. I have seen a lot of post about the original windshield seal failing leading to rust spots in the bird cage. Is this something I can be proactive about and have the windshield pulled and the seal replaced now to prevent future issues?
2. What are your thoughts on rust proofing the undercarriage? Product suggestions?
3. Converting to electric cooling fans?
As I've stated before, I appreciate any suggestions or experiences you are willing to share on the topics listed above or any other pertinent info you are willing to share.
All goods questions Shannon,
1; your windshield, if you remove the trim you can get a very good visual of the condition.
2; the chassis is some thing that a lot of members have addressed, some have gone so far as to remove the frame and have acid dipped and then powder coated. I myself along with numerous other members have just cleaned the frame as best as possible and painted. Keeping the frame clean is important critters build nest and dirt build up absorb and hold moisture which cause corrosion. Blowing out the frame with compressed air should be on your maintenance schedule. There are companies that have equipement that allows you to treat inside the closed areas of the frame [Eastwood].
3; both of mine have electric fans.

If you have birdcage issues, they've already occurred.

Mike is correct...nothing to worry about here. I think you have an aux cooling fan ANYWAY....I live in 120°F AZ....they were tested here....not a problem. DAD did a great job preserving the car....trust his judgement.
Things TO worry about.
Power steering components leaking.
Driveshaft u joints
Bushings
Rear wheel bearing grease.
Alcohol in your fuel.
Weatherstrip seal maintenance.

On the fan. What are your driving conditions like weather and traffic wise. If you get stuck in slow moving traffic there is a big chance you will over heat if your in 90*F or above temps because the pavement will be alot higher temp radiating up into a slow moving car.
The first few years I never really got stuck in traffic until I started going to the beach. So again it may be a per case basis. I upgraded from a slow moving clutch fan that didnt help in slow moving traffic to a single big fan and I haven't had an issue since.
I have a 11:1 327 solid lifter 365Hp non header car and it stays below 200*F stuck in traffic.
A regular 327 300 Hp car may have less issues
