Default L88 hood

A guy near me has a hood for $250. It looks like the only damage is where the hood prop bolts on (pictured). I know nothing about fiberglass repair, or the inner structure of these hoods. Is it worth it, or should I pass.

That was originally a small block hood that someone has glassed over with a L88 profile.
The hood prop area is easy enough to repair.
The value of the entire hood in general is up to you.

Thanks. I’m not concerned about if it’s a real L88. But yes I can see the small block pattern from the underside now that you mention it. I’m really just looking for more hood clearance to run a Performer RPM. Is there any reinforcements that have to be added there?

The tapping plate for the hood support is missing. You might be able to chase one down somewhere, but you won't be able to bolt the support to the hood without one.

Thank for the input everyone. I think I’m gonna pass on this. I just can’t afford a new one right now, so if anyone knows of one at a good price please let me know. L-46man I’m in your area (Mesa).

I have one that I’m not planning to use on my 68. It’s in very good condition and currently in gray primer. I’ll make you a good deal on it, but it will be a little more than the one in your post. It’s an aftermarket hood. Let me know via a PM if you’re interested.

only good idea he had was making part of that scoop able to get rid of some heat...fixable but a bad hack job.
Some guys need to shut the tool box. That hood may be worth 40 or 50 to a guy was good with glass, otherwise its scrap.

Batty....lets flip this around....you state paraphrasing...you want more clearance underhood. Have you thought of drop-down aircleaners...designed for just this purpose....they are wide and go DOWN around the carb, yet have good flow area.?????
