General,
My 68 is an HT code L79 so my pad will not work as a point of reference. VIN is close to yours so my thought was the engine assembly date was in-line. May be just the angle but the VIN appears curved. Not sure.
Can you ask the grouchy seller for a good picture of the VIN on the trans to compare?
Again, just my thoughts but there are many documented real no BS original 68 SBs out there. This one may be real but you may want to consider that if you have doubts, so will the next purist ( like me) that comes along if you ever decide to pass her along.

John yes. If the owner was more cooperative maybe I could sort it out as well. But I am really not considering purchasing the vechicle. There are other issues.
I simply posted it to help educate myself (and maybe others following) what to look for and some of the oddball GM markings that may exist. I have learned so much from the forum and from posting other markings that I feel comfortable when I go out searching.
Here is a good one, the tires are twenty years old but the owner doesn’t want to replace them because they are old. When I explained to him that they are not original to the car and that are just old and dangerous tires he just grumbled and ignored my comment.
Its a nice car just overpriced especially with the shaky pad. The concern for me as well is what do I do if I try to sell the car later. You will loose a large group of buyers do to the pad
